Patriot systems are important for Ukraine, but there are some problems with their integration into Ukrainian air defense. There are also Italian alternatives to such systems. This was announced on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel by military-political observer Alexander Kovalenko.
“This anti-aircraft missile system is useful, important and necessary as a long-range, as the next stage in the development of our air defense. But it has a number of points. The problem of integration into our air defense, since our air defense is a post-Soviet system. And here the integration of two completely different architectures and long-range systems is a problem. Plus, there is still a certain bureaucratic moment with the dispatch of the Patriot air defense system, Kovalenko noted.
He noted that there is an excellent Italian-French SAMP-T anti-aircraft missile system, which was designed in the early 2000s, and it is sharpened to destroy ballistic missiles.
“Missiles, with which, most likely, we may have serious problems in the near future if Iran supplied them to Russia. By itself, this complex has proven itself well, since it is capable of destroying targets at ultra-low altitudes, for example, up to five meters at supersonic speeds, within Mach 3.5 or more. They can both intercept and catch up with objects and destroy them. That is, an excellent complex, which it would be nice for us to really get from our Franco-Italian colleagues, ”said Kovalenko.
The expert also noted that after large-scale sanctions were applied against the Russian Federation, it can only apply to Chinese or Iranian manufacturers. And spare parts and components for equipment can only be obtained through smuggling.
