Parliament bans the use of sexism and gender stereotypes in advertising

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the second reading and as a whole the bill No. 3427 on counteraction the discrimination on the basis of sex.

This is reported by UA with reference to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The bill prohibits the use of statements and images about the superiority of one sex over another and stereotypes about the roles of men and women in advertising. 307 members of parliament voted for the decision.

According to the law, advertising prohibits:

– a statement or image about the intellectual, physical, social or other advantage of one sex over another, and about the stereotyped role of a man and a woman, limiting the freedom of a person’s life choices;

humiliate a person’s dignity based on gender;

– demonstrate gender-based violence;

– use the image of a person’s body (body part) solely as a sexual object in order to attract the attention of the consumer, and hints (words, sounds, images) about sexual relations that do not directly relate to the advertised product or the way of its use.

To remind, Ukrainian foreign broadcasting fell under the repression of the Lukashenko regime.
