After a brief stand off at an airport in Moscow, opposition leader Alexey Navalny was finally given permission to leave Russia.

The incident began yesterday as Navalny was trying to fly to a hearing at the European Court for Human Rights in France. The ECHR is expected to rule that his numerous arrests have been politically motivated.

According to his Facebook post, Navalny was told he had to pay a $31 thousand fine before he could leave, which he was unaware of earlier. However, he promptly paid.

He was then given permission to leave, but there were still problems at the border.
