Oleksandr Abramenko Receives a Substantial Amount of Money From the State for his Victory in the Winter Olympics

The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, issued an order to pay the Ukrainian Olympic freestyle Champion, Oleksandr Abramenko, a cash prize of $125,000.

“On my instructions, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has prepared and issued an order to pay the newly-minted Olympic freestyle Champion, Oleksandr Abramenko, a cash reward, which is $125,000. That is about UAH 3.37 million,” Ihor Zhdanov, the Minister of Youth and Sports said.

The Minister also noted that, according to Eurosport, Ukraine is in the top five for countries who have the largest Olympic money reward.

“Only 56,400 euros is provided for the gold for the Olympic Athletes from Russia. France pays 50,000 euros. Germany– 20,000 euros, the U.S– 33,200 euros, Poland- 28,800 euros, China– 25,800 euros, Austria– 17,000 euros, Canada– 12,900 euros. In Norway, the United Kingdom and Sweden, cash rewards for Olympic medals are not given,” he wrote.

On Feb. 18, Abramenko won the gold in freestyle aerial skiing, at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. This is the first medal for Ukraine at the Olympic Games.
