The number of civilian casualties, as a result of the war in Donbas, has decreased by 16 percent.

The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission, reported that twelve civilians died in the period from mid-November 2017 to mid-February 2018. 61 people were injured.

There were no deaths amongst civilians in February 2018. In March, there were three deaths, and seven civilians were injured.

The destruction of important infrastructure is still ongoing, and any rebuilding is hampered by constant bombardment, said Fiona Frazer, the head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.

“In particular, the Donetsk filtration station, which supplies water to 345,000 people on both sides of the conflict, is being shelled more often than any other infrastructure. This presents some difficulties for the civilian population,” Frazer said.
