New sanctions against Nord Stream 2 are being prepared by the US Senate

Six US senators have called for amendments to the US defense budget for fiscal year 2022, which provide for mandatory sanctions against the operator of “Nord Stream-2” company Nord Stream 2.

This was stated by a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Jim Risch, UA informs.

Republican Senator John Barrasso called North Stream-2 “Putin’s geopolitical weapon”. He stressed the need to impose sanctions.

“The Biden administration’s decision to abandon congressional sanctions has given President Putin courage to harm our ally Ukraine. As Russian troops return to the Ukrainian-Russian border, enforcing those sanctions is crucial to maintaining European independence and energy security” – said US Senator Rob Portman.
