Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds stated that NATO countries need to adapt to a new reality due to Russia’s aggressive actions.

This was revealed through a statement by the Latvian minister reported by Delfi.

He noted that Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has increasingly violated and threatened NATO airspace, which is a clear signal of the changing reality that must be addressed.

Spruds emphasized that the Alliance must immediately implement a rotational air defense model, particularly on NATO’s eastern flank, to send a clear message to Russia.

The minister highlighted that Latvia and other allied countries are currently working on various measures to strengthen and protect NATO’s eastern flank, but this is not enough.

He explained that Latvia is actively working on developing air defense capabilities to establish a multi-layered air defense system.

The minister also reported that Latvia has deployed mobile air force combat groups to the eastern part of the country, equipped with air defense surveillance radars and armed with short-range missiles.

To recall, in September, a Russian drone entered Latvia through Belarus.

Following this incident, Latvia deployed additional radars and mobile air defense units near its eastern borders.
