The Commander-in-Chief of NATO’s combined forces in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, said that Ukraine has an “excellent strategy” for waging war against the Russian Federation, although the course of hostilities is becoming more and more difficult to predict.

General Cavoli said this during a discussion at the Aspen Institute, quoted by “Voice of America”.

He emphasized that the course of the war will depend on the ability to “generate power.” In particular, from which side will be able to accumulate “quality power faster and take advantage of it while it has a window of opportunity.”

At the same time, the general noted that the Ukrainians are currently generating such strength and skillfully building their strategy: “During the past few months, the Ukrainians have been focused on protecting the eastern territories, preventing Russia from freely using Crimea and southern Ukraine to attack, maintaining its access to the Black Sea and generating strength. So I think they have a great strategy. It’s just a matter of continuing to execute it.”

According to Kavoli, the key part of “power generation” for Ukraine currently depends on the EU and NATO countries: “This will require us to accumulate and produce more equipment than we thought maybe two years ago.”

He emphasized that “the outcome of hostilities in Ukraine is vital for the future of European and world security”, and also added that the world should not “foster any illusions” about the end of the war in Ukraine.

“At the end of the conflict in Ukraine, no matter how it ends, we will have a very big problem with Russia. We will have a situation where Russia is rebuilding its forces, stationed on the borders of NATO, and it will be led mostly by the same people as now, and who are convinced that we are the enemy, and also very, very angry,” said the general, adding that the West should be ready for this.

Previously, Cavoli stated that NATO countries are “ready for collective territorial defense”, but need more military equipment.

In turn, the head of the Armed Forces of Norway, General Eirik Kristoffersen, expressed his belief that the “window of opportunity” of the North Atlantic Alliance for preparing for a possible confrontation with Russia has decreased to two or three years.
