Near the shores of Latvia and Estonia in the Baltic Sea, NATO’s large-scale North Shore exercises are underway. 13 countries of the North Atlantic Alliance and Sweden participate in them. 3,000 people, up to 30 ships and 15 aircraft were involved. During the exercises, which will last two weeks, the withdrawal of allied troops to the Baltic Sea and the landing of an amphibious assault in the event of war will be practiced. As experts note, the North Shore exercise is also a timely demonstration of strength for Russia, FREEDOM reports.
Naval units of NATO countries have started military exercises “North Shore”. They started on September 9 near the shores of Estonia and Latvia. The exercises were planned and conducted by the German Naval Staff. 14 countries participate in them, including countries from the Baltic Sea, including Sweden, as well as the USA, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium and France.
“This is a timely demonstration of strength for Russia. If she does not understand this in a human way, then they will demonstrate using military equipment. The question of Finland’s joining NATO has already been decided, Sweden is on the way, I think that a positive decision will be made by the end of the year,” said military expert Viktor Yagun.
Air, sea and land forces are involved in the exercises.
The US Navy is sending the 200-meter-long ship Mesa Verde, which is designed to transport and disembark about 800 Marines during the amphibious assault. During the “North Shore” exercises, which will last two weeks, they will practice repelling a potential Russian attack and launching counterattacks.
“We have an opportunity to protect the Baltic Sea – if Russia is trying to dominate the Black Sea, and we see what it is doing there with the ports of Odessa and all grain exports, as if the Black Sea completely belonged to it. But here, in the Baltic Sea, we will not allow Russia to dominate,” said security expert Kalev Stoicescu.
Attention will be paid to amphibious operations and strikes from the sea on land, and the defense of sea routes through the Baltic Sea will be worked out.
“Once again, NATO demonstrates that it is not planning any offensive operations. The main goal of NATO is, after all, the protection of the territory under its jurisdiction. And first of all, those countries that are in the immediate vicinity of the Russian Federation. These are the Baltic countries, Finland,” military expert Viktor Yagun emphasized.
Also, on September 11, the Sea Breeze 2023 exercise was launched in the waters of the Black Sea and the Danube River.
“Ukraine, Romania, the United States, and France are involved – countries that, at the same time as the Baltic exercises, show that NATO remembers not only the problems with the defense of its territories in the Baltic Sea, but also against the background of the fact that drones were hit in a NATO country “Romania will contribute its capabilities and training elements for mine defense in the Black Sea region,” Yagun said.
This shows that NATO is serious about the coastal infrastructure and defense of its allies, with whom they are ready to resist Russian aggression.
