Since 1991, the Russian Federation has illegally taken the place of the USSR in the United Nations. Now no one would accept Russia in the UN. This opinion was expressed today, on February 13, on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel by the diplomat, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina (2010-2017) Oleksandr Levchenko.
According to him, no one automatically gave Russia the authority to take the place of the Soviet Union.
“They have sat down and now, in addition to everything else, they are grossly actually violating the UN Charter and the principles of the UN, which are based on ensuring that there is security in the world, the absence of conflict, hostilities and wars that the Russian Federation has unleashed. Moscow is well aware that if it goes through the procedure for a new admission to the UN, it will simply not be accepted, because the UN accepts states that support a peace-loving policy, while Russia does not support this policy, in addition, it cynically blocks all Security Council resolutions that would condemn The Russian Federation and, most importantly, forced it to withdraw its troops from the temporarily occupied territories of a foreign state that is a member of the United Nations. The states whose nation made the biggest contribution to the victory over fascism in 1941-1945,” Levchenko said.
He noted that Ukraine is raising the question before the UN that the country is actually being destroyed by a neighboring state that is still sitting illegally in the UN Security Council.
“Our delegation is working actively, using the maximum opportunity and support of our allies, and generally sane people who understand that an unleashed war leads only to death, to bloodshed, aggression and to misfortune, human misfortune. In fact, the Kremlin brings these human misfortunes to the whole million Ukrainian people. We do not agree with this. We are fighting for our independence, we will defend it in the end. And we demand that the UN General Assembly vote on February 23 that we actually see Russian aggression in Ukraine, which must be stopped,” the diplomat stressed.
Oleksandr Levchenko added that now it is important to stop the aggression of the Russian Federation, and then work on reforming the UN.
