The meeting of Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Joe Biden was postponed at the request of the American side due to the need to complete the evacuation of Americans from Afghanistan. Ukraine is sympathetic to this request.
UA reports this with reference to Ukrinform.
The postponement is linked to a request from the United States, as the Taliban’s deadline for evacuating people from Afghanistan expires on August 31. It is clear that the security issues are very critical now and, obviously, the American side wants to pay as much attention as possible to the evacuation of citizens” – commented Serhiy Nykyforov, press secretary of the President of Ukraine.
According to him, Ukraine reacted with absolute understanding to the request to postpone the meeting of the presidents and supports the American partners.
Nykyforov noted that the change of date does not affect the format, the meeting in an expanded composition of delegations and presidents face to face remains relevant. The Ukrainian delegation headed by Volodymyr Zelenskyy leaves for the United States today and will return on Sunday, September 5.
To remind, on August 30 ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Oksana Markarova reported that the meeting of president of the U.S. Joe Biden and president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will take place on September 1.
The presidents were originally scheduled to meet on August 30. Then it was moved to August 31, and now to September 1. At the same time, Volodymyr Zelenskyy was planning other events in the United States on September 1. According to Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba, this happened “in connection with the expansion of the visit program”.
Besides, during the visit to the United States Volodymyr Zelenskyy will sign three bilateral documents.
