German Chancellor Angela Merkel will work to organize a meeting in the Normandy format until the last day of her term. This was announced by the Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine Anka Feldhusen, UA informs.
“We are already working a lot with our French colleagues on this possibility to arrange a meeting at the level of foreign ministers in the Normandy format. Of course, it is really difficult. At the moment there is no clear idea when will it take place. There are contacts with both Ukrainian and with the Russian side” – she said.
To remind, two weeks ago, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with leaders of Germany and France. The parties discussed holding the summit in the Normandy format. During the video conference, Volodymyr Zelensky, Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron stressed the need to implement the Minsk agreements. On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin also held talks with Macron and Merkel, complaining that Ukraine allegedly refused to comply with the Minsk agreements, as well as the agreements of the “Normandy Four” summit in Paris. Ukraine wants to hold a “Normandy summit” before the end of Merkel’s term. Russia’s position does not allow to agree on negotiations.
