France looks forward to making progress within the frameworks of the Normandy format in the coming weeks.

This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking at a briefing following the EU summit in Brussels, UA reports.

He stressed that it is necessary to look for ways to attract Russia to an active participation in the dialogue.

Macron noted that an important dialogue took place with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“We have reaffirmed our commitment to the Normandy format, our readiness to resume cooperation with Russia. I already spoke with Russian President Putin about this a few days ago. And I would like to pay tribute to the commitment of President Zelenskyy, which we clearly felt, to move forward on this issue”. – said the French president.

Germany also hopes to revive the Normandy format and make it effective, as stated by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“It is important for all of us that there is no shift of borders in Europe, so that there is security for everyone. This can only be achieved with respect for the principle of common security. All Council members agree that it should be clear that everyone who violates these borders should expect an appropriate response”, he stressed.
