Latvia has sent to Ukraine 612 cars confiscated from alcohol-impaired drivers with a total value of 2.25 million euros. This is reported by the State Revenue Service of Latvia, reports Delfi.

On February 16, 2023, the Latvian Saeima unanimously approved urgent amendments to the law on the support of citizens of Ukraine. These amendments allowed the transfer of cars owned by the Latvian state to Ukraine, including vehicles confiscated from drunk drivers.

Since the amendments came into force, the Latvian government has decided several times to transfer such vehicles to Ukraine. As of mid-December last year, Latvia had already sent 271 vehicles worth more than 903 thousand euros.

The initiative is part of Latvia’s broad support for Ukraine, aimed at helping the country in war conditions.
