Ukraine will apply for membership to the European Union by 2024, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.
“Ukraine and the EU are closer to each other as never before,” Poroshenko said at the forum, “From Kruty to Brussels. We Are Going Our Own Way.”
The president expressed confidence in Ukraine’s future membership in the EU and NATO.
“No non-NATO country has such close relations with the Alliance as our country. But only full membership with the EU and NATO will guarantee our state’s independence and national security,” Poroshenko said.
Also by 2024, he said, ” We will receive and begin to implement the NATO Membership Action Plan.”
Poroshenko said that the events over the past years have shown that the only way for Ukraine to preserve its independence is to move closer to the West.
