The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, called on Russia to show “goodwill” and agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine.

She stated this before a meeting of European foreign ministers in Madrid in the “Weimar+” format, as quoted by Reuters.

Kallas said that “the return of Ukrainian children who were deported to Russia and the release of prisoners of war” are examples of gestures that Russia could make to demonstrate “goodwill.”

She also called on the United States to put pressure on the Kremlin to end the war.

Notably, on March 31, during the fourth meeting of the Ukraine Support Group in the “Weimar+” format, the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, and the UK, along with Kallas and European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius, will discuss increasing military aid and security guarantees for Ukraine, as well as Europe’s future role in the peace process.

The meeting in Madrid takes place ahead of an informal summit of EU defense ministers in Warsaw, which will primarily focus on assessing the EU’s real capabilities to increase military support for Ukraine—particularly the urgent provision of the necessary ammunition to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
