EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has invited foreign ministers from the bloc attending the Munich Security Conference to meet on Sunday to discuss relations with the Trump administration and the war in Ukraine.
According to Reuters, which cited an EU official, the aim of the meeting will be to share information and take stock of the latest contacts with United States Administration representatives and with Ukraine at the Munich Security Conference.
Kallas’ move was prompted by U.S. President Donald Trump’s call this week with Russian President Vladimir Putin and recent U.S. statements on Ukraine.
Earlier this week, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in Brussels that returning Ukraine to its pre-2014 borders was an “unrealistic objective.” He also stated that any potential peacekeeping mission within security guarantees for Ukraine would not involve U.S. troops.
