The European Union is ready to consider options for action if Russia does not stop accumulation of troops near the Ukrainian border. To oppose the attempts of the Russian Federation to present itself as a mediator, and not a party to the conflict. This was announced by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell, informs UATV.

In his blog, he summarized the content of the videoconference of the foreign ministers of the EU countries on April 19, in which the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba took part. He noted that the participants focused on the situation in Ukraine.

“We should continue to urge Russia to de-escalate and defuse tensions and resist Russia’s attempts to portray itself as a mediator rather than a party to the conflict”, the diplomat wrote.

Borrell stressed that the increase in tension requires both a principled position and an intensified diplomacy.

“We agreed that we should speak with a single voice in our conversations with Russia and at all relevant international forums – G7, OSCE, from the United States – and convey a coordinated message of solidarity with Ukraine”, the EU diplomat concluded.

The EU had called for Russia to withdraw its troops from the Ukrainian border.

An action plan to contain Russian aggression was proposed by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba at a meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers.
