Despite the rapidly evolving landscape across the world, Japan will continue to stand firmly by Ukraine and oppose any unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force.
This was stated by Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine Masashi Nakagome at the 5th Ukraine-Japan Forum organized by the New Europe Center, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Despite rapidly evolving global landscape, Japan’s position on Ukraine remains steadfast. As a strong and unwavering supporter of Ukraine over the past three years, Japan will continue to stand firmly with Ukraine in this time of need,” he said.
The ambassador emphasized that Japan remains resolute in its belief that the war against Ukraine is not merely a conflict – it is an outright act of aggression against a sovereign state.
“Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is an egregious violation of the very foundation of the international order. Japan firmly opposes any unilateral attempts to change the status quo by post, whether in Ukraine, East Asia, or anywhere in the world,” the diplomat assured.
Nakagome added that Russia’s deepening cooperation with North Korea in the war effort against Ukraine underscores the global ramifications of the ongoing conflict.
“North Korea is supporting Russia with ammunition, missiles, artillery, and even troops, with casualties now reportedly reaching into the thousands. It is inconceivable that North Korea would commit these resources without expecting something in return. Japan is gravely concerned about the implications of the growing military collaboration in Moscow and Pyongyang,” the ambassador stressed.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, at the Munich Security Conference, Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya emphasized that Russia’s war against Ukraine should end in line with a scenario providing for the establishment of a just and lasting peace.
