It is necessary to take assets from those Russians who are directly involved in the war of Russia against Ukraine – expert’s opinion

To confiscate the assets of Russians in the West, it is necessary to understand who owns them. It is worth taking them away from Russian criminals who are somehow involved in the war. It is not worth waiting for the end of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, since these funds need to be invested in the country’s economy right now. Ilya Neskhodovsky, head of the analytical direction of the ANTS National Interest Protection Network, spoke about this on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel.

“The main thing is who owns these assets. The question is how easy it is to prove the guilt of this person in Russia’s participation in the war against Ukraine. That is, they take assets from a person because he is a criminal, because he gives orders or takes part in some form of war, ”he explained.

The expert explained that Ukraine needs to do everything possible so that the population remains on the territory of Ukraine, otherwise they will leave for other countries. It is for economic needs that the funds of the confiscated assets should be directed.

“Ukraine now needs money in order to restore its economy, to compensate for the loss of housing, work, everything. That is, it needs to be done right now, and not to delay the processes until after the end of the war. We need now to compensate people for the loss of housing and property so that they stay in Ukraine. Because if we don’t compensate now, they will move to Europe or America and live there,” he said.

“There are people participating in the war, and this is their individual responsibility. And in relation to these people it is possible to apply not only sanctions. You can determine their guilt, take and transfer these assets to Ukraine,” the expert added.

There are a number of countries that are now taking real legal steps in this matter.

“The USA, Canada, Poland, Estonia are the countries that are already making really real steps. Well, in other countries, we see very incomprehensible movements that, in fact, are simply not going to develop appropriate legal mechanisms at the moment in order to take assets from criminals and transfer them to Ukraine. Therefore, the element of not so much a legal instrument as the political will of specific countries is very important here,” Neskhodovsky explained.
