The Russian invaders already understand that one way or another they will have to retreat from the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. Therefore, all kinds of propaganda and political statements are being made, which are made, in particular, by the head of the Wagner private military company, Yevgeny Prigozhin. Igor Romanenko, the founder of the charitable foundation “Close the Sky of Ukraine”, retired lieutenant general, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (2006-2010), shared this opinion on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel today, May 11.
“In my opinion, it is necessary to separate the propaganda show that Prigozhin conducts almost daily, and the military situation itself, which is developing in the fortified city, and the actions of our defensemen in the fight against this enemy,” Romanenko said.
Russian forces have weakened, offensive impulses too, he says. Therefore, the prospects for the occupiers are not particularly positive. And Prigogine is trying to secure himself.
“He has professional advisers who help organize the fighting,” Prigozhin means, and therefore he presents a negative outlook for himself and for the military personnel of this campaign. He is trying to insure one way or another in this situation, ”said the guest on the air.
From a military point of view, Romanenko believes, it is obviously a matter of time before they have to leave.
“These may be actions of a certain asymmetric nature, that is, if Ukrainian troops advance in certain directions, then in other directions the enemy will have to withdraw his troops so as not to be under attack or even surrounded. They understand this, therefore, all kinds of propaganda and political statements are being made, ”the military expert emphasized.
He believes that Prigozhin does not have many options to whiten his reputation.
“Both Girkin and Prigozhin occupy a certain place in the propaganda system of the Russian Federation. But at the moment, they have fewer and fewer options to somehow whitewash themselves and show their significance, ”said Romanenko.
Therefore, he says, Prigozhin chose a scenario that would slander the Ministry of Defense and the regular army of the Russian Federation. They say that the regular units are not capable of anything, but only he and his military personnel achieved success.
“And now, in the situation in which they find themselves, these actions are becoming futile,” Romanenko said.

Earlier, Romanenko said that bloody battles continued in the Bakhmut direction, but the enemy forces there were significantly weakened – both in manpower and in ammunition.
