Areas of cooperation were discussed within the framework of a sectoral working group with the participation of Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Yevhen Fedorenko and representatives of the Reform Support Team within the Ministry, the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, UNDP, UNEP, UNECE, UN, OECD, the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine, the German GIZ project, KfW Development Bank, and JICA.
Yevhen Fedorenko told the partners about the key aspects of the environmental component of the National Recovery Plan.
“The revised section titled Environmental Safety identifies 9 key reforms to be implemented in Ukraine; about 200 regulations to be adopted; 90 specific tasks by year and stage of their implementation, as well as 53 projects with a total cost of USD 25.5 billion,” the Deputy Minister said.
According to him, after the first presentations of this document in Lugano and Brussels, more than 170 proposals were received from stakeholders. 90 of them came from international partners. It is noteworthy that 25% of all comments concerned cross-cutting issues of green recovery, namely the promotion of green growth in all sectors of the economy. This was also emphasized by global financial organizations.
“I fully agree with my colleagues that it is important not only to rebuild Ukraine, but to make it even better. The reconstruction should be carried out in line with the country’s European integration movement and the guidelines of the EU’s Green Deal. We understand that this is not a one-day journey, but we have already begun to move towards our goal step by step,” emphasized Yevhen Fedorenko.
The Deputy Minister also spoke about the tasks set by the Ministry for this year. They also discussed the areas where actions and coordinated efforts can be synchronized right now. Our partners are willing to share their experience to develop the necessary high-quality regulatory framework in Ukraine. In addition, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources would also appreciate expert support in developing a green financing system.
