In winter, logistics support for troops is of particular importance, and here the Ukrainian Defense Forces have an advantage. Military expert Valery Ryabykh said this on the FREEDOM TV channel.

He emphasized that harsh weather conditions could in fact be bad for both the Russian occupiers and the Ukrainian military.

“But there are certain things that can shift this balance in one direction or the other… Of course, in such conditions it is especially difficult to conduct combat operations and requires careful planning and, most importantly, support. Experts say that if it is necessary to overcome these difficulties with the cold, with ensuring operations at night, since the daylight hours are halved compared to the summer period, when troops can operate and conduct operations, in these conditions the main burden falls on logistics. And this is where the one who has better logistics wins,” said Ryabykh.

He noted that during the previous winter, the advantages were on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which was related both to issues of supplying troops and to the assistance provided by Ukraine’s partners.

“We saw that at the end of August and beginning of September, the packages of assistance provided included winter uniforms, the same night sights, heating equipment, generators and other necessary equipment so that the units operating on the front line were more prepared and had advantages over the enemy,” the expert said.

Ryabykh recalled that last winter, poorly equipped and poorly trained Russian conscripts simply froze on the battlefield.

“This year, the enemy took into account some mistakes, but the main problem has not been resolved – this is the logistics support of the troops… And if we take the southern direction, the same Dnepr grouping, then here the enemy has to overcome very great difficulties, because the supply chain is stretched, plus now the Armed Forces of Ukraine have significantly greater means of influencing the enemy’s rear and destroying their rear bases. Therefore, the supplies necessary for operations in winter conditions are often not supplied to the Russian occupiers in a timely manner. This reduces their combat capabilities,” said a military expert.

He noted that this is reflected, in particular, in the growing number of losses in the Russian army. Ryabykh emphasized that losses in equipment are also important here, for example, the destruction of fuel tankers and other vehicles that provide logistics for the invaders.
