If Ukraine does not defeat the Russian Federation in the war, it will return to colonial Russian approaches. Russian President Vladimir Putin is spending billions of petrodollars to drive a wedge between Ukraine and its Western partners. This opinion was expressed today, October 1, on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel, the founder of the “Close the Sky of Ukraine” charity fund, retired lieutenant general Ihor Romanenko.
“A very important approach to assessing the war is an objective assessment regardless of the wishes of the parties, in particular the wishes of Ukraine and Ukrainians. It consists in evaluating the enemy objectively first of all. And we did it. And this is our strength from the very beginning of the war. And this is different from the position of the Russian Federation, because of which they lost their blitzkrieg, the first strategic offensive operation and, in general, still do not achieve the goal, although a year and a half of the war has already passed. Therefore, I will be objective, fatigue does not only occur in our allies, it also accumulates in our society. But the difference, in my opinion, is that we understand that war is existential. That is, for us it is for its existence. If we lose, we will lose our state, and, in general, we will return to the period of colonial Russian approaches, against which our people have been fighting for three hundred years,” he said.
Romanenko noted that this is not the war of 2022 and 2014, but a much older one. And for the states that help Ukraine, it is considered one way or another indirectly.
“They don’t want to take part in this with their troops, we understand such a position in our own way, we don’t want it to turn into a nuclear war. Of course, we also take this kind of position. But here they differ in how to come and how quickly to do it. And therefore it is necessary to understand that there is also a difference in the societies of these states,” says the general.
He clarified that the more time goes on, the more it begins to manifest itself.
“We see mutual relations and individual moments that are manifested, in particular our strategic ally, for example, Poland, but also various forces in various states, which are fueled by Putin’s supporters. Putin spends billions of gas and oil dollars on this, despite the fact that the big expenses have already passed and they don’t have enough money, so to speak, even for such a resource-rich country as Russia. But the leadership of the aggressor country, the terrorist country, invests a lot in this approach in order to create a split in the allied ranks of aid to Ukraine,” Ihor Romanenko concluded.
