If the last power line at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant fails, then there will be several weeks before the accident, – expert on nuclear energy

The threat from Russia’s nuclear blackmail at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is comparable to the Fukushima threat. This was announced today, on April 23, on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel, by professor, nuclear energy expert Ludwig Litvinsky.

He commented on recent IAEA statements that the Zaporizhzhia NPP continues to rely on the only remaining functioning transmission line to obtain the necessary external electricity. Before the occupation, this enterprise had four such transmission lines.

“It threatens, as before, with a repetition of the scenario of the accident at the Japanese Fukushima station, where power supply was lost and, accordingly, the security systems stopped working further and the core began to warm up, and until it melted. The threat is similar, let’s say. And this threat is constant, since according to the regulations there should be several such lines, there should be a main one, a backup one, and so on. In addition, there are standby and main diesel generators both at each power unit and station ones. But they can only work for a limited period of time, which is determined by the supply of fuel for these generators. And realistically, actually, if you look at the clock, we’re about a few weeks away, let’s just say, if everything continues normally and just this last power line goes down, we’re a couple of weeks before the moment when the accident can occur. Litvinsky said.

The Russian occupiers put the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant on the threshold of risk and catastrophe.

“First, God forbid. And secondly, if such a thing happens more than expected, then not only they will receive consequences, practically the territory of the entire European continent will receive consequences, and maybe part of the Asian continent,” the expert on nuclear energy explained.

According to him, a similar precedent for the creation of a military foothold on the territory of the nuclear power plant was the only one and again created by Russia – at the site of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
