Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has presented an ultimatum to Ukraine which includes constraining EU’s military aid for Ukraine until it allows Russian oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline.

This was reported by Reuters on July 23.

“As long as this issue is not resolved by Ukraine, everyone should forget about the payment of the 6.5 billion euros of the European Peace Facility compensation for arms transfers,” said Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, according to Reuters, citing ATV.

Szijjártó claims that Hungary and Slovakia get 33% and 40-45% of Russian Lukoil’s crude oil thanks to transit through Ukraine.

Since July 18, Slovakia and Hungary haven’t been able to receive Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline. According to Reuters, the states have appealed to the European Commission to arrange a consultation procedure with Ukraine on the matter.

In June, Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council imposed more drastic sanctions against Lukoil, adding a ban on transit of its oil through Ukraine.
