How many air defense systems are needed to protect the Ukrainian sky, – the expert explained

The West already understands that Russian President Vladimir Putin has switched to a “cannibalistic” form of warfare. Because of this, Ukraine needs air defense systems to cover the skies, as well as modern weaponry. Professor of Prague University, military expert Yury Fedorov said this on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel.

According to him, one NASAMS battery (complex) contains 72 anti-aircraft missiles. Their radius of action is about 40 km, height – 16 km.

“If you install such a battery in the geographic center of Kyiv, it will protect the entire capital of Ukraine. I think that somewhere before Boryspil, the protection zone against cruise missiles and drones will work, ” – he said and added that the probability of hitting one target with one missile is about 80%.

As for the German IRIS-T, the expert noted that the radius of destruction of the target is also about 40 kilometers, the height is 20 kilometers.

“In such a system, there are 24 missiles in one salvo launch. There are three launchers for every eight missiles,” – says Fedorov.

According to him, in order to protect Ukraine as a whole, to completely close the sky, several dozens of such systems are needed.

“What they have already promised for sure: the Americans promised to deliver eight NASAMS. The Germans promised to deliver four, one has already been delivered. For now, it means 12. But Western leaders understood a simple thing, that Russia has already switched to completely cannibalistic forms of war, this is a total war, this is destruction, ” – the expert emphasized.
