The Ukrainian and German military, which are involved in advising the Armed Forces of Ukraine, are jointly developing tactics of warfare, taking into account the development of the situation on the ground and changes in Russian methods.

This was stated by Christian Freuding, Director of the Joint Planning and Command Staff, Head of the Ukrainian-German Situation Center at the German Ministry of Defense, in a commentary to Ukrinform.

“What we are witnessing now is that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are really under pressure. But at the same time, we also see that they are acting with great courage and commitment. We admire this,” the general said.

Commenting on the Russian army’s minor advances in eastern Ukraine, he noted that the number of troops and resources involved plays a big role in a “war of attrition.” At the same time, he does not think it is right to publicly discuss Russian tactics.

“We discuss this with my colleagues and friends in a more secure and safe environment, where we work together to develop countermeasures,” Freuding said.

He assured that the German side is trying to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with all the necessary support.

At the same time, Freuding believes that it is very important to “see from time to time how the situation on the front line is developing – how technologies and tactics are changing” and noted that he travels to Ukraine “regularly”.

Brigadier General Christian Freuding is the head of the Special Staff for Ukraine at the German Ministry of Defense. He participated in the Bundeswehr’s missions in Afghanistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina. From 2019 to the end of April 2022, he commanded the 9th Panzer Brigade in Munster.
