On January 4, an emergency of regional significance was declared in occupied Sevastopol due to the discovery of fuel oil on several beaches.
On the Nakhimovets beach in Orlovka, oil products were found in the water and fuel oil on the 760-meter-long coastline. Zoryanyi Bereg beach was also affected, with pollution covering an area of approximately 100 square meters. Other beaches have also been affected, although the extent of the pollution is not yet clear.
Local residents are actively helping to clean up the area. The occupation “head” of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, said:
“I personally head the operational headquarters. A state of emergency of regional significance has been declared in Sevastopol.”
Before the incident, on December 15, two tankers sank in the Kerch Strait – Volgoneft 212 and Volgoneft-239. The ships broke up, causing fuel oil to leak into the water, the effects of which are now visible on the shores of Sevastopol.
