Their stories is from now on also part of Ukrainian contemporary history. They were held hostages, survived intimidation, blackmail, and torture, but they never lost their dignity.

What kept them going was a mix of faith, resilience, and optimism to one day return home.

These men are in many ways national heroes, or are at least considered as such by the rest of the population. One can hardly imagine what they suffered, and the ensuing gap that they must confront now that they returned to civilian life.
