Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced the convening of the Security Council on January 23 due to information received from the Slovak Information Service (SIS) about an organized influence operation aimed at destabilizing the country. Fico said this at a press conference, as quoted by TASR.

At the press conference, Fico said that there is an “expert group” in the country that allegedly participated in the protests in Georgia and on the Ukrainian Maidan. According to him, this group aims to organize unrest that could result in the seizure of government buildings, parliament and the presidential palace.

The prime minister noted that the activities of this group are closely monitored and called it a violation of the law, and in some cases a criminal offense.

“All TVs in the world will be on, broadcasting footage of police actions. This will be followed by mass protests and attempts to seize power in the country,” Fico said.

This statement comes after the SIS announced a long-term operation that Fico claims is aimed at destabilizing the country. At a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Fico also accused the Slovak opposition of preparing for the Maidan.

However, the opposition in Slovakia denies such accusations, calling them an attempt to divert attention from the country’s internal problems and criticism of the government.
