Facebook has found that the failure of the social network was due to incorrect configuration changes on the main routers.

This was reported on the website Facebook Engineering, UA writes.

“Our engineering teams have learned that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between our data centers caused issues that interrupted this communication. This disruption to network traffic had a cascading effect on the way our data centers communicate, bringing our services to a halt” – it is said in a statement of the company.

The main reason for this shutdown has also affected many internal tools and systems using in everyday work, complicating the company’s efforts to quickly diagnose and resolve the problem.

“Our services are now back online and we’re actively working to fully return them to regular operations. We want to make clear at this time we believe the root cause of this outage was a faulty configuration change” – it is noted in a statement of Facebook.

The company said it had no evidence that “user data was compromised as a result of this downtime”.

“We apologize to all those affected, and we’re working to understand more about what happened today so we can continue to make our infrastructure more resilient” – noted in the company.

On Monday, October 4, there was a global failure in the work of social networks Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Facebook Chief Technology Officer Mike Schroepfer said the crash was caused by problems with the company’s servers.

Downdetector, which monitors failures and outages on popular Internet resources, called the failure of Facebook the largest ever recorded. Problems have been reported more than 10.6 million times worldwide. Social networks did not work for more than 6 hours.
