Events at Zaporizhia NPP may follow the Fukushima scenario, but for other reasons, – expert

If the events at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) follow the worst-case scenario, it can be compared with the events at Fukushima. But there will only be an accident for other reasons. This was announced today, June 1, on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel by the head of the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine (2017-2021) Grigory Plachkov.

“You can look at the disaster at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant as an example, but I would still consider the accident in 2011 at the Fukushima Daiichi 1 nuclear power plant in Japan. If this is the most apocalyptic scenario that can go to the Zaporizhzhya NPP, it can go according to the scenario of the Fukushima NPP, but there will only be completely different reasons. There it was an earthquake and a tsunami, but at the Zaporizhzhya NPP it was the military, ammunition and heavy equipment,” he said.

Plachkov explained that the type of reactor at the Fukushima nuclear power plant is more similar to the VVER-1000 reactors that are at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

“Still, the RBMK reactor is quite different from the VVER-1000 reactor in its design solutions. Therefore, if… I think that diesel generators will work, and the Russian Federation will not agree to such non-project events at the Zaporizhzhya NPP. Still, the border is not far away – 80 km from the Russian Federation. Therefore, the disrespectful Russian Federation will continue to keep us in suspense, use this area to shell cities such as Nikopol, Marganets and others under the control of Ukraine, ”the expert believes.
