MEPs have written a letter to the EU leaders that explains that Hungary must be deprived of its voting rights for exploiting its EU presidency.

That’s according to POLITICO that has the letter in its disposal.

In the letter, 63 members from the European People’s Party, Renew Europe and the Greens turned to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola to solve the Hungarian issue.

According to them, Hungary’s PM Viktor Orban “has already caused significant damage by exploiting and abusing the role of the Council Presidency” by going to China and Russia to meet Putin and Xi.

“This requires real actions, such as suspending Hungary’s voting rights in the Council, since practice has shown that mere verbal condemnations of this situation have no effect,” the European MPs outlined their outlook on the matter.

Previously, the media claimed that EU foreign ministers intended to ignore a foreign affairs summit in Budapest in August and attend the one arranged by Josep Borrell on that very same day.
