The European Commission is preparing its proposals on the possible extension of the duty-free trade regime with Ukraine.

This was stated during a briefing in Brussels by the European Commission’s spokesperson for economic security and trade, Olaf Gill.

“I cannot say too much now, except to reiterate that the Commission is fully committed to such consultations with Ukraine under Article 29 of our Association Agreement in the context of advancing mutual tariff liberalization. We are currently finalizing the proposal and will soon present it to Ukraine,” he noted.

Recall that in June 2022, the European Union introduced “autonomous trade measures” in trade with Ukraine. In fact, a free trade regime was introduced in order to support the Ukrainian economy, which suffered from the Russian invasion and temporarily lost the ability to deliver export products to its traditional markets.

These measures were extended several times, and a protection mechanism was also introduced to minimize the negative impact of increased imports from Ukraine on EU producers.
