The European Union has prolonged the new sanctions against Russia for the next six months.

The sanctions were to be imposed on people and institutions, whose activities were aimed at undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The decision was approved on Wednesday by the permanent representatives of the member countries of the European Council, reports Ukrinform.

The sanctions will be imposed on 150 people who are Russian and Crimean, and also separatists in Donetsk and Luhansk. These people will have their EU visas banned and their assets blocked. The sanctions will also apply to 38 companies operating in the Russian-annexed Crimea.

The Austrian President, Alexander Van der Bellen, earlier spoke to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, and revealed that the EU wants to extend the sanctions against Russia, because they violated the international law.
