At a meeting on Monday, EU foreign ministers agreed to impose new sanctions on Iran for supplying ballistic missiles to Russia.

According to the German news agency DPA, citing EU diplomats, the punitive measures are aimed at companies, institutions, and individuals involved in the production and supply of these weapons. The decision was made by foreign ministers in Luxembourg.

Details of the decision are still unknown, but those targeted by the sanctions will soon be published in the Official Journal of the EU. It has also been reported that sanctions will be imposed on the state airline Iran Air.

The European Union had previously warned Iran multiple times against supplying ballistic missiles to Russia, stating that such actions would be considered a serious violation.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the planned EU sanctions, claiming that Iran had not supplied ballistic missiles to Russia.

On October 4, Bloomberg reported that the EU was preparing a sanctions package against Iran for supplying ballistic missiles to Russia, which the U.S. officially confirmed on September 10.

According to U.S. sources, the supplied short-range Fath 360 missiles are estimated to have a range of about 120 kilometers. These missiles are expected to help Russia reserve its longer-range missiles for other operations.
