EU establishes new sanctions against Belarus

EU ambassadors have approved a new package of sanctions aidmed at Belarus aiding Russia in its aggression against Ukraine.

This was reported by Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU on X.

“This package will strengthen our measures in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including combating circumvention of sanctions,” reads the statement.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen strongly welcomed the ambassadors’ decision , saying that the sanctions will contribute to efectiveness of sanctions against Russia.

“Belarus must no longer serve as a route to circumvent our sanctions against Russia,” von der Leyen reiterated to the package on X.

On June 24, the European Union officially adopted the 14th sanctions package against Russia, imposing first ever restrictions on re-export of Russian LNG.
