The European Union is now implementing energy security measures that were planned for the early 2000s but were not implemented due to the desire for financial gain. Energy expert Gennady Ryabtsev spoke about this on the FREEDOM TV channel.
“Despite the formulation of the requirements for energy security of the member states of the European Union, no more than 30% of the supply of each energy carrier from one country along one route, they were not adhered to by all states. Moreover, the absolute majority of EU members, including Germany, did not adhere to it,” he said.
According to him, EU member countries were counting on a change in Russia’s policy, so they temporarily postponed solving the problem of dependence on Russian energy resources.
“They hoped that Russia would stop becoming a second Soviet Union or a second Russian Empire. But neither the first nor the second happened. Therefore, what is now being done within the European Union are those actions that were planned for the early 2000s and were not carried out for purely mercantile reasons, profit and income, which, of course, went to improve the well-being of EU citizens, to whom no one was in a hurry explain how dangerous such a connection to an unpredictable state is,” Ryabtsev concluded.
