Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stressed that after the U.S. administration decided to suspend military aid to Ukraine, Europe should increase and accelerate aid to Kyiv to fill the gap.
This was reported by the Estonian Foreign Ministry, Ukrinform saw.
“Europe must increase military aid to Ukraine to allow Ukraine to continue fighting for a just and lasting peace,” Tsahkna said.
He added that the Estonian government had already decided to increase its assistance this year by 25% and also deliver 10 000 artillery shells to Ukraine.
“Our decision proves that it is possible to make new and quick decisions to help Ukraine, and we call on all supporters of Ukraine to increase their aid as soon as possible,” Tsakhkna stressed.
According to the head of the Estonian foreign ministry, one of the options for obtaining additional resources to help Ukraine is to utilize frozen Russian assets.
“Claims that there are no legal ways to use Russia’s frozen assets are unfounded. Last week, I shared a draft paper with our European partners, offering a clear solution for using frozen assets,” the Estonian minister said.
He added that a political decision on the use of frozen Russian assets should be made before the June deadline for extending Russia sanctions.
“The sole perpetrator of the war must feel pressure and the victim of the aggression must have strong support because it is the only way to force Russia to give up its goals and achieve lasting peace in Ukraine,” Tsahkna said.
As reported earlier, Bloomberg said U.S. President Donald Trump had ordered to put on pause all U.S. military aid to Ukraine in order to force Kyiv to demonstrate a “good-faith commitment” to peace.
