Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called a new Russian invasion of Ukraine unlikely. At the same time, he said he wanted to discuss the situation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He said this at a press conference during a visit to Albania on January 18, UA reports with reference to Anadolu.
The President of Turkey said that he was going to discuss the situation in Ukraine with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who was recently in Kyiv.
“I will talk to Ilham Aliyev. Of course, it is important to discuss these issues with Putin as well. Because these regions will not be able to withstand the burden of a new war. That would be wrong. It is time to completely eliminate the war scenario from the political agenda” – Erdogan said.
The President of Turkey stressed that in today’s world the desire to occupy foreign lands will not lead to the desired.
“For example, what steps has Russia taken in Ukraine, Crimea. In every conversation with Putin, I declare that Turkey is against the occupation of Crimea. The same position is conveyed to the Russian side by the Turkish Foreign Ministry. In other words, Turkey’s position on this issue is unequivocal” – Erdogan said.
Earlier, Erdogan said he was ready to become a mediator between Ukraine and Russia.
