Researchers associate recurent of COVID-19 not only with changes in the pathogen, but also with a certain pathology of the nonspecific link of human protection according to the interferon system, the so-called interferon deficiency.

This was reported by Natalia Vynohrad, an epidemiologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Epidemiology of the Lviv National Medical University, the press service of the Ministry of Health informs.

Professor recalled that at the beginning of the pandemic, scientists around the world saw the salvation from coronavirus infection in the creation of population immunity. But, the disease revealed a number of phenomena. Firstly, these are repeated diseases that happened very quickly, sometimes the period ranged from 19 days to 3 months. Secondly, the development of the so-called “long COVID” or “post-covid syndrome”.

The Recurrent diseases of COVID-19 are explained as a cause of changes in the genotypes of viruses that circulate and the characteristics of the immune system of a person. This is due to certain shortcomings of the nonspecific link of the immune system, the so-called first line of defense.

The epidemiologist noted that most often repeated cases of coronavirus disease occur among representatives of professional risk groups.

The WHO said that vaccination against COVID-19 in Europe is too slow.

Also, the WHO predicted when the COVID-19 pandemic would end.
