The enemy is attempting to enter the Sumy region to encircle Ukrainian forces operating in the Kursk region.

Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andrii Demchenko announced this on Ukrainian television, Ukrinform reports.

“It would be incorrect to say that the Russians have broken through the border near Novenke. Of course, attempting to push Ukraine’s Defense Forces out of the Kursk region, they are conducting dozens of assault operations. To build on their momentum, they are also trying to cross our border to encircle our forces operating in the Kursk region,” Demchenko said.

According to him, the priority is to prevent the enemy from crossing the border. “That is their objective, and that is what we are currently observing in the direction of Novenke,” he said.

He added that in this area, the enemy is unable to use heavy equipment and is instead attempting to infiltrate in small assault groups. Their mission is to advance deep into Ukrainian territory, establish a foothold, and expand the combat zone.

Demchenko said that in the past 24 hours, approximately 20 enemy troops have been eliminated, with around 15 wounded in this sector.

Demchenko earlier referred to the border area within the Sumy region as a “kill zone” where Russian forces are being eliminated.
