Due to the deportation, the number of Crimean Tatars decreased by about 50%.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote about this on Twitter, UATV informs.

“77 years ago, the Crimean Tatar population was deported from Crimea. Because of this, they lost almost 50% of the people. 7 years ago Crimea was occupied by Russia. Ukraine is doing everything to protect the rights of those offended there and return the peninsula. That is why we start the “Crimean platform”, – the head of state writes.

Earlier, Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba called on the international community to recognize the deportation of the Crimean Tatars as genocide.

Besides, human rights activists have fixed almost 150 arrests in the occupied Crimea since the beginning of the year.
