“We were talking about Minsk-1 becoming ‘stalled, deadlocked, and the need for Minsk-2,’ Trump said. ‘Let’s hold it in another place,’ I said, ‘Let’s do it,’”  Nazarbayev said, quoting his talk with Trump during a press conference in New York after a UN Security Council meeting.

The Kazakh president noted that the talks on the Donbas should have been held in Kazakhstan in the first place.

“I traveled in order to get everyone together. And we agreed to work in this direction,” the president said.

In addition, Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the Minsk agreements have come to a standstill and “now peacekeepers must be introduced to Donetsk and Luhansk so that they could define the border.”

“It is necessary to bring their positions closer together, to come to an understanding. There is no such mutual understanding as of today,” the Kazakh leader said.

Earlier the US officials stated that they would start cooperation with Russia after the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. “While we are on guard against Russian aggression, we recognize the need to work with Russia where mutual interests intersect.” – wrote US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in a New York Times article. According to the diplomat, “Absent a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine situation, which must begin with Russia’s adherence to the Minsk agreements, there cannot be business as usual with Russia.”
