Ukrainian war correspondent and filmmaker Mstyslav Chernov who directed “20 Days in Mariupol” and won an Oscar could join the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

That’s according to the Academy’s website.

“We are thrilled to welcome this year’s class of new members to the Academy. These remarkably talented artists and professionals from around the world have made a significant impact on our filmmaking community,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Young.

The Academy has decided to invite 487 new cinema industry artists to join it, and if all of them join the Academy, it will have 9,934 voting members.

The members of the Academy will take part in the voting for the next Oscars, overseen by the organisation.
