Destruction in downtown Sumy following Russian missile attack

Russians launched a missile strike targeting the central part of Sumy in Ukraine’s northeast, causing destruction in the residential area.

This was reported on Facebook by the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Ukrinform saw.

“The enemy launched a missile strike on the city center. Several high-rise buildings (sustained damage – ed.). In the nearby school, children had been taken to shelters, all are alive and being evecuated,” the report said.

According to Artyukh, rescue services are currently working to eliminate the consequences.

The efforts to put out the blaze are underway.

As reported earlier, the Russian military shelled Sumy region 11 times in the early hours of Monday, March 24.

According to the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Artyukh, and acting mayor Artem Kobzar, at least 28 people have been injured as a result of the attack. Emergency services are working at the scene to assess the full extent of the destruction and provide assistance to those affected.

Local authorities have condemned the strike as yet another deliberate attack on civilian infrastructure, emphasizing the ongoing threat posed by Russian aggression to Ukrainian cities and residents.

Later, number of wounded increased to 74, including 14 children.

The Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into war crimes. Prosecutors, in cooperation with other law enforcement officers, are documenting the consequences of the attack.

Around 14:00, the Russians carried out a missile strike on the center of Sumy. The enemy targeted the residential sector and infrastructure facilities, including children’s medical institutions.
