China does not need any allies, it sees Russia as a fellow traveler – political scientist on military assistance

China is actually replacing Russia in matters of security and economic relations in Central Asia. China is entering the first role, and Russia is gradually being squeezed out and out of there. This was announced today, March 19, on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel by a political scientist, director of the Center for Research on Civil Society Problems Vitaly Kulik.

“A lot of information of a speculative nature is now appearing that, here, some allied relations are being built between China and the Russian Federation. In reality, China does not need any allies, it is self-sufficient, it considers itself as a point of power and influence. Therefore, China is not going to assume any allied obligations. China’s only allied obligation is the mutual defense treaty with North Korea of the 1950s. There are no other agreements that provide for certain security guarantees or the participation of the Chinese armed forces in certain conflicts, general protection, the supply of weapons, ammunition, the provision of weapons – this is not the case with any country, ”he said.

In addition, the political scientist clarified, China will not assume such obligations, based on foreign policy global security risks.

“Accordingly, if we are talking about some kind of Chinese military assistance to Russia, then this assistance will be limited exclusively to dual-use goods and China will look for some kind of gray areas in order to bypass the sanctions mechanism. And politically support the Russian Federation, look for opportunities to influence third countries so that they sell to Russia, despite the sanctions, ammunition or military equipment. Although this is already complicated and such loopholes are being covered more and more, ”says Kulik.

Therefore, he states, Russia cannot expect military assistance from China.

“That’s political support, yes. Geopolitical games involving China – yes. China sees Russia as a fellow traveler, as a junior partner, which, according to Beijing, will weaken by confrontation with the conditional West, and, accordingly, becomes more negotiable in the context of expanding China’s sphere of influence to Siberia, the Far East, Central Asia, where Russia is is still present, ”summed up Vitaly Kulik.
