Vasyl Bodnar, Ukrainian Ambassador to Türkiye, claims that only Russia will benefit from a seasefire, reinfrocing its capabilities, unless occupiers withdraw from the occupied Ukrainian.
He said this in an interview with EuroNews.
“Many countries have proposed the idea of a ceasefire, but no one is thinking about what it means,” Bodnar stressed, explaining that a ceasefire would mean “25 percent of Ukrainian territory remaining under Russian control” while Russia would get time to “reinforce its capabilities and renew its attacks on Ukraine.”
In his opinion, only when Ukraine gets guarantees that Russia will withdraw its troops and get back to respecting international law there could be a discussion of any other conditions. So, for example, Orban’s plan that doesn’t contain neither these points nor any actual details in general can’t contribute to the peace in Ukraine now.
The diplomat points out that the war Russia is waging against Ukraine is genocidal which doesn’t make it easier to launch proper negotiations with the Russian Federation.
