Building the Archive of National Memory in Ukraine is a terrible challenge for Russia, – head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Anton Drobovych

A powerful antidote to the Soviet past is historical documents proving the crimes of the totalitarian regime. This was announced today, on March 22, on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel by the head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Anton Drobovych.

“The Archive of National Memory is an institution that was to be completed, and about 4 million cases of all the repressive bodies of the Soviet Union that were on the territory of Ukraine were to come together in it. So that everyone can write there and get access to these documents. Until now, construction has not been completed due to various challenges. But, nevertheless, the archive command works. The Archive of National Memory is one of the institutions that helps to identify and find documents. In our country, the second in terms of the number of cases of the repressive bodies of the Soviet Union, of course, the construction of this archive was a terrible challenge for Russia, ”he said.

Drobovych noted that this is also one of the reasons why the Russians are trying to destroy and seize these files from the Ukrainian archives.

“Because then, if we can digitize and properly study all these cases, then even the way of thinking, an incredible amount of evidence of the criminal activities of the KGB will be revealed, and the whole world will be even more convinced of how repressive and horrific the Soviet system was in this matter. And, perhaps, it will even be possible to finally recognize both of these totalitarian regimes as equally criminal at the world level, and not in such a way that the Nazis were condemned in our country by almost four UN resolutions, but about the totalitarian Soviet regime, which tens of millions of people laid down, so far there is not a single condemning document of the UN level. This is a mess, ”explained the head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.
